Welcome
The National Strength and Conditioning Association is proud to announce the revitalization of the National Strength and Conditioning Association Foundation (NSCAF). The mission of the foundation is to act exclusively for charitable, educational, or scientific objectives.
The newly appointed Foundation Officers are: President, Joseph P. Weir, PhD, FNSCA, Vice President Jeffrey R. Stout, PhD, CSCS,*D, NSCA-CPT, *D, FNSCA, Secretary/Treasurer Joan Eckerson, PhD, CSCS, FNSCA. This team is eager and excited to oversee the growth and development of this foundation.
A major goal of the foundation is to aid in the increase of assets of the foundation in order to increase grants and scholarships for NSCA members. Donations will come from contributors and selected sponsors who are also dedicated to science and research.
With the growth of the foundation, the NSCA will have the ability to give back to its membership, affirming the mission of being the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning, supporting and disseminating research-based knowledge and its practical application.
NSCAF Update
There are several things to report about the activities of the Foundation over the past few months. First off, our official name is now the National Strength and Conditioning Association Foundation (NSCAF). We were originally set up to be titled the National Strength and Condition Foundation (NSCF), but we thought it made sense to more closely align the Foundation name to the NSCA so it is clear that funding comes from a component of the NSCA. Second, please welcome the new members of the NSCAF board of directors: Dr. Jeff Stout (Vice President) and Dr. Joan Eckerson (Secretary/Treasurer). Joan replaces Dr. Larry Weiss whose term ended in July. Jeff is the representative of the NSCA Board of Directors and he replaces Juan Carlos Santana following a re-shuffling of duties of the NSCA Board of Directors. Jeff will complete the two year term for that position on the NSCAF board. I want to personally thank Carlos and Larry for their hard work over the last year and a half or so in getting the NSCAF off the ground. Discussions of articles of incorporation, bylaws, basis points, bonds, stocks, interest rates, inflation, etc is not the most exciting stuff, but people like Carlos and Larry volunteer to do the hard work to make the NSCA successful. Finally, this is the first year that the NSCAF has participated, along with sponsors and individual donors, in funding scholarships and grants. In total, there were 16 scholarship recipients, 9 graduate student research grants, and one young investigator award approved for funding. With the growth of NSCAF assets, opportunities for students and young investigators will grow. Please visit our website (http://www.nsca-lift.org/
NSCAFoundation/default.shtml) to learn more about applying yourself or to help mentor your students and colleagues. Our funding rate is higher than other organizations and I encourage you to take advantage of this “target rich” opportunity.
