Welcome
The National Strength and Conditioning Association is proud to announce the revitalization of the National Strength and Conditioning Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to act exclusively for charitable, educational, or scientific objectives.
The newly appointed Foundation Officers are: President, Joseph P. Weir, PhD, FNSCA; Vice President, Larry W. Weiss, EdD, CSCS,*D, FNSCA; and Secretary/Treasurer, Juan Carlos Santana, MEd, CSCS,*D, FNSCA. This team is eager and excited to oversee the growth and development of this foundation.
A major goal of the foundation is to aid in the increase of assets of the foundation in order to increase grants and scholarships for NSCA members. Donations will come from contributors and selected sponsors who are also dedicated to science and research.
With the growth of the foundation, the NSCA will have the ability to give back to its membership, affirming the mission of being the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning, supporting and disseminating research-based knowledge and its practical application.
NSCF Reaches $1 MILLION in Assets
The National Strength and Conditioning Foundation now has over one million dollars in assets! Not bad for starting from zero not too long ago. In addition, the legal paperwork for our tax exempt status is done and the final version of the bylaws has been approved. We can thank the NSCA Board of Directors for their leadership and foresight in jump starting the Foundation. We are currently in the process of researching investment management firms for the long term growth of the NSCF. Currently, the assets are 100% invested in a low-cost money market fund. We have been either prescient or lucky in keeping the assets in a low risk fund as we got our feet on the ground, since this has allowed us to avoid the turmoil in the financial markets that occurred over the last half of 2007 and the start of 2008. As with other similar non-profit foundations, our goal is to spend approximately 5% of the NSCF’s assets per year while growing the principal relative to inflation so that so that we can increase funding over time. As it looks right now, we anticipate increasing the funding for grants and scholarships in 2008 by about 10% over 2007 levels.
